The planHere it is. The Democrats have a "new" plan.
A new direction? Away from our present direction of a great economy, winning a war and becoming fiscally responsible! That last one is a joke, sure, the Republicans have not been good at curbing spending but the thought of the left curbing spending is ridiculous! They have always believed in big government and just a quick perusal of their plan shows nothing but big government spending.
"Our new direction will advance a common agenda, seek common ground, and apply common sense in the service of the common good. We know that with a new direction, we can meet our national challenges in a way that makes our nation stronger, our economy more vibrant, and our families more secure. Instead of record deficits, we will go in this new direction in a fiscally sound way. We will make America more competitive and not heap mountains of debt on future generations."
A NEW DIRECTION FOR AMERICA
Democrats offer a New Direction, putting the common good of all Americans first for a change and will:
Make Health Care More Affordable: Fix the prescription drug program by putting people ahead of drug companies and HMO’s, eliminating wasteful subsidies, negotiating lower drug prices and ensuring the program works for all seniors; invest in stem cell and other medical research.
Lower Gas Prices and Achieve Energy Independence: Crack down on price gouging; eliminate billions in subsidies for oil and gas companies and use the savings to provide consumer relief and develop American alternatives, including biofuels; promote energy efficient technology.
Help Working Families: Raise the minimum wage; repeal tax giveaways that encourage companies to move jobs overseas.
Cut College Costs: Make college tuition deductible from taxes; expand Pell grants and slash student loan costs.
Ensure Dignified Retirement: Prevent the privatization of Social Security; expand savings incentives; and ensure pension fairness.
Require Fiscal Responsibility: Restore the budget discipline of the 1990s that helped eliminate deficits and spur record economic growth.democraticleader.house.gov/
"When it comes to energy, we're focused on the fact that we use 21 million barrels of oil every day, and we import 66 percent of those 21 million barrels of oil," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid said. "In America, we're in a Stone Age policy by which the rich grow richer, the world becomes warmer and middle class families are being squeezed."
So what is their 'new' direction? It's hard to tell. For example, the minority leader of the House of Representatives recently said that the economy was headed in the 'wrong direction' -- after 33 months of consecutive job gains. And the Senate minority leader issued a press release saying American efforts in Iraq were headed in the 'wrong direction' -- the day after American forces killed terrorist leader [Abu Musab] al-Zarqawi.
